Here's our first look at the explosion effect for Firecracker Fight! Actually it's our second look. I'll show you the first draft too, for comparison. But just enjoy the sharp, fiery goodness:
A firecracker explosion needs three things. A sudden burst of fire. A lingering plume of white smoke. And a satisfying effect on the ground. I believe we've got it.
Here was a first version. Notice any differences?
The difference? Black smoke! This is a perfect explosion for a diesel truck hit by a laser-guided bomb, or a positronic brain overheating. But I feel that Firecracker Fight is playing with metaphors. You're fighting a war against a scary enemy. But your weapons are handheld firecrackers, and his are plastic technical trucks. We've decided to use white smoke like real firecrackers, so the artifacts of the conflict are toy-scale, but represent something bigger, and worth fighting for. Let's see how it all plays out!
